If you have just moved house or your existing bedroom is in need of a revamp, then read on to find out about some handy decorating tips. There are few things to consider including: colour scheme, furniture, lighting and interior decorations. The thought of decorating a room can be daunting but there are ways to make each task quicker and much more fun!
The first thing to decide on is the colour scheme of the room – once you know this then you can base everything else around it. This will stop you buying things you ‘like’ that may not all work well together, and encourage you to buy cohesive items. A bedroom can be any colour you like, but if it is a small room a lighter colour scheme will make the room seem bigger. A great idea is to choose a base colour such as cornflower blue, then add a couple other colours like white and dark blue to your colour scheme. You could paint the walls cornflower blue, and then have a feature wall of dark blue and white stripes.
Furniture can be expensive but there are cheaper places to buy items - usually at large stores where the furniture is flat packed and you assemble it yourself. If you want furniture that will last for years it may be worth spending a bit more money, but if you like to redecorate every few years cheaper furniture should last this amount of time. To save money why not modernise your existing furniture? Paint an old wardrobe cream or white and buy some funky handles to replace the old ones.
Lighting is a key factor to what makes a room. In the bedroom soft lighting will always work best, investing in
bedside lamps is a great idea. These can sit on top of your bedside cabinets, or on a window sill, and will provide enough light at night time for you to read a book and get ready for bed.
Touch lamps can become a feature of a room if placed into a corner – these come in modern, traditional, brass and chrome styles. They frequently have various settings enabling you to change the brightness of the light that diffuses from the touch lamp.
Interior decorations add character to a newly decorated room. These include: bed covers, cushions, throws, paintings, photographs and mirrors. Buy items that fit in with your colour scheme. A great tip is to take a small sample of the colour of your room (such as a square of wallpaper or a tester tub of paint) when you go shopping – this way you can see which items will work and which won’t. Add photographs and paintings to your taste to make the room personal to you – that way you’ll enjoy being there and all your work will have paid off!
