With regards to styling your home, there has never been so much choice. With so many different lighting options such as chandeliers, and other things including: fabrics, ornaments and colours, there is so much scope for imagination.

However, with Christmas coming up, huge cuts on the horizon and people generally having less money than in years, it has also never been more important to watch the pennies. Here are some ways to give your haven a well needed revamp you’ll love without breaking the bank.

• Use your imagination! Do you have old bits of china or broken mirror shards you can’t bear to throw away? Make a mosaic worthy of any Roman Caesar by buying some superglue (you don’t want bits dropping off!) and sticking them in patterns onto a hard surface. This can then be put up on the wall or propped up in your living area.

• Make it multisensory – candles come in so many beautiful scents these days, from the usual suspects like Vanilla and Apple, but you can find some really quirky candles online now. They really make a difference to the general ambience of your living space.

• Lighting is key - you could have the most beautiful home but if you can’t see it properly then it means absolutely nada. Evidently a complete electrical revamp is not likely to be on the cards. A small purchase can make all the difference, some lighting designers sell stunningly beautiful chrome chandeliers,, and you could also invest in a small chandeliers=,.

• De-clutter – open up your living space by simply moving your furniture around. Never underestimate the power of the simple reshuffle. Furniture that is too big will make the largest room look crowded and take away from the relaxation you could experience there. Again, you do not have to buy new furniture; just find a willing pair of strong arms and get moving! Even if it "doesn’t go in the lounge", be open minded and ask yourself why.

• Think about the positive qualities your living space has and accentuate them in an inexpensive fashion. For example, if your lounge has a wide windowsill, accentuate that by moving some of your ornaments onto it, if your lounge is small, optimise its size by moving your furniture around and remember how lovely it is to have a small and cosy living room. It’s easier to heat for a start.
